Just like natural teeth, dentures need to be well taken care of, especially if they chip or break. No matter how your dentures become damaged, it’s important to have your dentures repaired efficiently and effectively. Here’s what you need to know about emergency denture repairs.

How do dentures break?

Dentures can break or chip for any number of reasons. Sometimes it’s a result of an accident, while at other times it might be a result of age.

1. They were dropped

One of the most common reasons for denture breakage is that they were dropped onto a hard surface. This can happen easily, as many bathrooms have hard tile floors. No matter how they were dropped, it can result in chips, fractures, or breaks to your dentures.

2. They encountered a tough bite of food

Like real teeth, dentures can break if they bite down on a tough bite of food. It’s not always easy to tell which foods might cause dentures to break, but many hard or brittle foods are enough to do the trick.

3. They’ve weakened over the years

After many years of use, dentures can weaken and break from everyday wear and tear. It might not always be clear exactly why the denture broke, but it’s clear that it needs repairing.

Reasons for emergency denture repairs

1. Broken or chipped tooth

One reason you may need emergency denture repair is for a tooth that has chipped, fractured, or popped off the denture entirely. This usually happens when you have bitten into a tough food, but no matter if the tooth is broken or detached, a professional can help fix and secure it.

2. Broken denture class

If the clasp of your denture has broken, you might notice that it feels loose and unstable. That’s because the clasp is what keeps the denture in place. A new clasp can be added to the denture to make sure that it’s secure and comfortable.

3. Fractured denture

It’s possible that dentures can fracture due to being dropped, having a poor fit, or experiencing wear and tear. A fracture to the denture is typically a simple repair, but it’s an important one because it affects the comfort of your dentures.

What you should know about emergency denture repairs

It can be a hassle when your dentures break. The good news is that your dentures can be repaired, but there are a few things you should know about emergency denture repairs.

1. Don’t wait

Your dentures are important in your everyday life, so you should take advantage of emergency denture repairs immediately after the break. It can be tempting to wait until your next appointment, but having your dentures fixed immediately ensures that no further damage is caused. This will make the repair easier and more affordable.

2. Repairs need to be done by a professional

The most important thing to know about emergency denture repairs is that they must be done by a professional. Denture repairs need to be customised and carefully handled. Professional denture repair will make sure that your dentures are comfortable, safe, and in perfect condition.

3. Most repairs can be completed on the same day

Luckily, emergency denture repairs don’t have to take a long time. Aesthetic Dentures can repair most dentures the same day, so you won’t have to go long before your dentures are good as new.

4. Be sure to bring any bits that may have broken

If a part of your dentures has fallen off or a tooth has come loose, it’s important to bring along all pieces to your denture repair clinic. If possible, the dental prosthetist or technician will reattach the pieces that have come apart. Don’t worry if you can’t find the missing pieces, simply bring in the pieces you have and the professionals will take care of the rest.

If your dentures have become chipped, fractured, or broken then it’s time to think about emergency denture repairs. Aesthetic Dentures can help with any emergency denture repairs.Contact us today to arrange an appointment with our expert team.

Elias prepared a full set of dentures for my 90 year old mother. The service he provided was exceptional, using current technology effectively to create a set of dentures which were far superior to what she had previously had. Elias also made it very clear that my mother could go back at any time if minor adjustments were required. He gives meticulous attention to detail. Tamika ensures that appointments run to time. State of the art technology and skills and ability to match. I went to the clinic highly anxious ( my previous dental encounter at another clinic resulted in a panic attack and blacking out twice whilst in the chair) due to the poor integrity of my teeth, as a direct result of a health condition I had lost the majority of my teeth and the remaining were nothing short of a train wreck. Elias treated me the utmost respect and kindness. Read more

A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth. At Aesthetic Dental and Denture Clinic, we offer two types of denture, complete and partial. Complete dentures are necessary when all your natural teeth are missing. A partial denture is used when some natural teeth remain. If you are having extractions, we can also provide you with an immediate denture. This is often an interim denture so you can avoid the embarrassment of being without teeth.

A denture usually lasts between five and seven years. Time and natural changes in the mouth will affect the fit and wear patterns of your denture. If your denture is worn and doesn’t fit as well as it used to, it may require a repair or reline. Having your denture checked every two years will help to ensure a proper fit and by following your denture care instructions, you’ll extend the life of your replacement teeth.

Dentures don’t last forever. Dentures usually last between 5 to 7 years and need to be relined every 1 to 2 years. Over time dentures become worn and don’t fit as well, so it’s important to reline them regularly. The better you follow your denture care instructions, the longer your replacement teeth will last.

It is advised that you visit your dentist every 6 months for a check-up and clean. This will help to prevent any major oral health issues from occurring. However, if you have bad breath, bleeding gums, discoloured teeth, cracked or chipped teeth, tooth or jaw pain it is advised to make an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible.

At Aesthetic Dental and Denture Clinic, we know attending the dentist can be difficult for nervous and anxious patients. We offer a number of options to help make your next visit as calm and stress-free as possible. Contact us today and a friendly dental technician will be able to give you all the options available.
