If you’re lacking confidence with your smile, dental veneers may help. Veneers are custom-made facings that can be designed to change a number of aspects of your tooth/teeth from colour, shape, length and width to the entire smile line veneers are bonded to the front surface of the tooth to give your existing teeth a brighter, more beautiful appearance.
People get veneers for a number of reasons, including:
- To fix crooked teeth
- To hide poorly shaped teeth
- To cover gaps in between teeth
- To whitening discoloured teeth
- To fix a chip or crack in teeth
Our team at Aesthetic Dental and Denture Clinic have many years of experience in cosmetic dentistry.
There are two main types of veneers: composite and porcelain.
Composite resin veneers are applied one layer at a time, with each layer shaped and cured by the dentist. Composite resin veneers are affordable, relatively easy to repair and you can have a number of veneers applied in one appointment.
Porcelain veneers are custom made in our laboratory and are cemented to your tooth’s surface. They are longer-lasting than composite, don’t change colour, and keep your teeth looking natural.
Deciding which one is right for you will depend on your own personal preferences, the desired smile design you are looking for and your suitability for each option.
The procedure for dental veneers is simple as there is no major surgery. To start with, book an appointment with a dentist at Aesthetic Dental and Denture Clinic who will be able to work with you to discuss the results you’re after and your options. During this consultation, we may need to take an x-ray, photographs, intra-oral scan and/or mouth impressions.
For the next step of porcelain veneers, our experienced dentists will prepare your teeth, then take an impression. This impression is then taken to our onsite laboratory where our technicians and ceramist will construct the porcelain to your desired design, this takes about 1-2 weeks.
Once the porcelain is constructed to the desired shape and colour we’ll ask you to come back for the final part of the process. Here, we apply a special bonding agent to the veneer and join it onto your existing tooth. We then use a specialised curing light to activate the bonding agent, causing it to harden and set.
Caring for your veneers is simple – treat them as you treat your natural teeth. Brush them twice a day, floss regularly and visit the dentist every 6 months as usual for a dental hygiene appointment. The more you take care of them, the longer they will last.
Veneers are cosmetic, which means most people can get, however a dental assessment is required first to discuss if veneers are suitable for your individual needs and/or desired outcome. Your teeth need to be in a healthy condition free from any holes or cavities so the veneers can be attached to them. If you grind your teeth, you may need to consider wearing a splint at night to protect veneers from chipping or breaking.
There are many benefits to veneers, including:
- They look natural in appearance
- The gums typically tolerate them well
- They are stain resistant (in porcelain), so you’ll have white teeth for longer
- They require less work than crowns
- They can be coloured to make teeth look whiter
- They are tooth coloured and reflect light in the same way as your natural teeth
- The procedure is minimally invasive
- Easy to care for
- Good option for patients with enamel loss
The price you pay for dental veneers depends on two main things. What type you’re getting and how many teeth require veneers. Some people may get veneers on just one tooth, or a few teeth at the front. Other people might prefer to have all their teeth done. Keep in mind that porcelain dental veneers cost more than composite veneers, so talk to your dentist about your budget to find the right choice.
Remember, veneers are an investment that could last many years, so be sure you’ve considered all of the above before making a choice. The process is simple, and you could have a new smile within weeks!
By choosing the right dentist, you’ll have more chance for successful, long-lasting veneers that look amazing and boost your confidence.

Dental veneers cover the front of your teeth. Unlike a crown, the veneer covers only the front of the teeth. They aren’t a strengthening solution and they aren’t a repair. They are solely cosmetic to improve the appearance of your teeth. They are custom-made to fit your mouth to conceal staining, chips, cracks, and imperfections. Crowns cover the entirety of the tooth and restore damaged teeth. Veneers are one of the most popular and common treatments in cosmetic dentistry, and there are several types available.
Composite veneers utilise tooth-coloured composite and are suitable for concealing mild cosmetic problems. Porcelain restorations are custom-made for your teeth. However, before your dentist can place them, they may need to roughen the surface of your teeth by removing some enamel. This ensures maximum adhesion. If you don’t like the idea of enamel removal, discuss no-prep veneers with your dentist. Removable veneers are a newer invention and pop in like a retainer. They are difficult to eat and speak with.
If you have spaces or gaps between your teeth that impact your confidence when you smile, then veneers are an excellent solution. Veneers are also ideal for restoring your smile to cover up broken teeth, chips, small or misshapen teeth, or staining that whitening can’t repair.
Veneers are custom-made shells that cover your teeth to hide imperfections in your natural teeth. It’s a thin layer and because it only covers the surface of your teeth, they are considered temporary. The treatment, however, is considered a permanent one because your natural teeth have to be trimmed and altered for the veneers to properly adhere.
In certain circumstances, a dentist will opt for a composite resin to adhere to the teeth rather than reducing them. If this is the route you take, the veneer could be removed down the line without major issues. This bonding can last up to seven years. These are a quicker process, but they are prone to staining just like natural teeth.
If your teeth were unaltered for composite veneers, you can discuss your options moving forward. Otherwise, you will need a new set of veneers.
Like dentures, porcelain veneers can last around 10 years at which time you will need to visit your dentist for a replacement. If you grind your teeth or clench your jaw, a veneer is unlikely to last as long. However, this is something your dentist will pick up before you get veneers and it’s something you can discuss. If you practice good oral hygiene as outlined by your dentist, then you may be able to extend their life up to 15 years.
Choosing a dentist is an important decision because you are entrusting your smile to someone. A great dentist can be life-changing and finding a dental veneer clinic is no different. So, the first step to finding a dental veneer clinic is to find clinics in your area that perform the treatment you want.
Once you have a list of clinics, you can read reviews to learn more about the experiences other patients have had. Visit multiple platforms to get a sense of how happy people are overall with the work they have done. You can also reach out for recommendations. You should also visit their social media platforms to see photographs of their work.
Without a doubt, you should check to ensure the clinic has the credentials necessary to carry out the work you are looking for. Make sure they are accredited.
If you are still having a difficult time deciding, book a consultation to discuss your smile. This will give you a clearer sense of what the clinic is about, how the team treat people, and how clean and hygienic the clinic itself is. This will also give you time to discuss pricing because the fee will depend on a variety of factors.
The short answer is yes, you can choose the colour of your dental veneers.
Whether you have missing teeth, staining, or cracks, there is a dental treatment solution that is right for you. Cosmetic dentistry has come a long way, and veneers have provided people with a straightforward solution to cosmetic issues.
Veneers are thin composite shells that cover the natural teeth to improve the appearance of your smile. You can do away with unsightly gaps, cracks, chips, or stained teeth. There are many different types of veneers available, so you should speak to your dentist if you are thinking about veneers. One of the most popular parts of the process is choosing the colour of your veneers from the colour chart. If you want a natural look, the dentist will guide you to the right colour fit. While the final decision rests with the patient, your dentist will help you choose the colour that works best for your smile.
Your dentist will consider the shape of your face, teeth, age, and features when designing the shape of your veneers. The same considerations are made when choosing the colour. The dentist is a professional, so do let them guide the process and trust any advice they offer.
The majority of dental clinics outsource fabrication to a commercial lab, which can result in wait times of months for a variety of treatments.
When a commercial lab fabricates a dental treatment, they don’t have the benefit of seeing the real translucency and shade of your natural teeth. When your dentist has an in-house fabricator, they are working directly with you to replicate natural teeth for a natural result. It also produces a more precise fit because an in-house fabricator is more precise. The technician creates everything to the exact specifications instead of working with a stock image.
Quality control is also an important part of in-house fabrication. It puts the control of your treatment in the hands of your dentist from start to finish.
There are two additional major benefits – there is a shorter waiting time because there’s no need for any back and forth with a commercial lab. With everything handled under one roof, you don’t need to wait as long. That also makes repairs more convenient. If there is damage due to trauma or tooth grinding, there is no need to worry about delays.
Aesthetic Dental and Denture Clinics‘ in-house lab is just one of the many reasons to choose us for your cosmetic dental needs.
