When is a Partial Denture the Right Solution?

One of the most rewarding things you will engage in terms of personal hygiene, especially as an adult, is maintaining and caring for your teeth. A smile has a way of lighting up a room and boosting someone’s confidence. Therefore, when one gets into an accident and loses some of their teeth, they might end up becoming more self-conscious, which eventually leads to doubt and withdrawal.

Besides leading to a loss in the social stance and confidence, losing some of your teeth could result in:

  • Problems while eating or drinking – you might experience discomfort due to the empty parts where your teeth should be. For some people, the discomfort can be a form of pain.
  • Shifted teeth – the teeth surrounding the empty section adjust to fill the space. This leads to a distortion in the teeth structure.
  • Receding gums – the gum in the toothless area gets weak and starts shrinking. Eventually, this compromises the health of the other teeth.
  • A change in appearance – your gums and teeth play a crucial role in how your face looks. When your teeth shift and your gum shrinks, you lose your face structure as it starts to take on the new form.

Although most people regard dentures as a necessity for older people, partial dentures are a great way to keep your gums in proper health and maintain your appearance, no matter the age.

Amazing Perks of Getting Partial Dentures

Keeping your smile beautiful and wide is essential for you. Therefore, working with a reputable company to provide you with quality dentures is of the utmost importance. Before you make a final decision, ensure that they are up to standard with the set regulations and that they blend in with your original set.

Many people feel self-conscious about the concept of dentures and are concerned about others noticing them. Thankfully, the dentures are mounded and coloured to fit in with the rest and make them less noticeable. Instead of being a negative to your self-esteem, partial dentures can give you a smile that you feel confident in.

A common misconception about dentures is that they are very expensive, normally thinking about the full set. One significant advantage is that partial dentures come at an affordable price. Although they serve you for a long time, they do not require regular maintenance from a professional. You only need to come in for adjustments to help to maintain a proper fit once every few years. Other than that, your dentures just require simple at-home maintenance to stay in good working order.

On top of their durability, they are highly functional. You can use them to eat anything at any time. Even though most people register a form of awkwardness when they start using them, they adapt quickly and cannot differentiate the performance of their original set and the dentures.

Tips to Taking Care of Your Partial Dentures

Proper care of your dentures promotes the general well-being of your oral health. By getting the right partial dentures, you eliminate the risk of shifted teeth and receding gums, which lead to a change in your appearance. Therefore, you need to learn how to care for them.

You need to clean the dentures, properly and regularly. This helps keep your mouth clean and fresh while protecting all of your sets. Even though the teeth aren’t real, poor hygiene when it comes to dentures can lead to the same ill effects, including bad breath and gum disease. Thankfully, dentures are easy to care for and don’t require much different work than your own teeth. When cleaning, you first rinse the dentures. You then need to use the proper paste and a soft brush.
It is recommended that you treat your dentures with utmost care to extend longevity and maintain functionality. The better they are cared for, the longer they last.

Are Partial Dentures Right for You?

The best way to decide on whether partial dentures are right for you is to consult with a denture clinic. However, if you’ve lost even just one tooth, partial dentures can be a good fit for you. Even with just one tooth missing, you can start to feel the negative effects that come along with it. Whether or not you are experiencing things like shifting teeth or jaw misalignment, dentures can help alleviate the problems or prevent them altogether.
One thing to keep in mind is that there is generally a period of adjustment after you get your dentures. However, if you can make it through the changes to eating and drinking, it will quickly be an adjustment you’ll be thrilled with. There is no need to let missing teeth dim your smile or self-confidence.

Elias prepared a full set of dentures for my 90 year old mother. The service he provided was exceptional, using current technology effectively to create a set of dentures which were far superior to what she had previously had. Elias also made it very clear that my mother could go back at any time if minor adjustments were required. He gives meticulous attention to detail. Tamika ensures that appointments run to time. State of the art technology and skills and ability to match. I went to the clinic highly anxious ( my previous dental encounter at another clinic resulted in a panic attack and blacking out twice whilst in the chair) due to the poor integrity of my teeth, as a direct result of a health condition I had lost the majority of my teeth and the remaining were nothing short of a train wreck. Elias treated me the utmost respect and kindness. Read more

A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth. At Aesthetic Dental and Denture Clinic, we offer two types of denture, complete and partial. Complete dentures are necessary when all your natural teeth are missing. A partial denture is used when some natural teeth remain. If you are having extractions, we can also provide you with an immediate denture. This is often an interim denture so you can avoid the embarrassment of being without teeth.

A denture usually lasts between five and seven years. Time and natural changes in the mouth will affect the fit and wear patterns of your denture. If your denture is worn and doesn’t fit as well as it used to, it may require a repair or reline. Having your denture checked every two years will help to ensure a proper fit and by following your denture care instructions, you’ll extend the life of your replacement teeth.

Dentures don’t last forever. Dentures usually last between 5 to 7 years and need to be relined every 1 to 2 years. Over time dentures become worn and don’t fit as well, so it’s important to reline them regularly. The better you follow your denture care instructions, the longer your replacement teeth will last.

It is advised that you visit your dentist every 6 months for a check-up and clean. This will help to prevent any major oral health issues from occurring. However, if you have bad breath, bleeding gums, discoloured teeth, cracked or chipped teeth, tooth or jaw pain it is advised to make an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible.

At Aesthetic Dental and Denture Clinic, we know attending the dentist can be difficult for nervous and anxious patients. We offer a number of options to help make your next visit as calm and stress-free as possible. Contact us today and a friendly dental technician will be able to give you all the options available.
