The perfect, bright smile is a dream for many, and nowadays, it is possible to make that dream come true through cosmetic dental treatments.

Cosmetic dentistry has become a viable option for many. The latest data reveals the global cosmetic dentistry market was valued at USD 33.6 billion in 2022 and is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.5% from 2023 to 2030.

Several factors have fueled the demand for cosmetic dental procedures. Social media has led to people wanting to look their best online, imitating social influencers and icons. Remote work, which has become more common post-COVID, has also contributed to the rise of cosmetic dentistry.

Remote work has triggered the “Zoom effect” or the need to look your best, especially during on-camera meetings. Looking your best meant not just wearing appropriate attire but also flashing a dazzling white smile.

Lastly, cosmetic dental treatments and procedures have become more accessible. From whitening procedures to DIY kits, these have made it easier and more affordable to achieve the smile you’ve been dreaming of.

Most Popular Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatment. The latest data revealed that the global market size for dental whitening treatments was USD 8.52 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow from USD 8.93 billion in 2025 to USD 12.77 billion by 2032. The Asia Pacific region dominated the market, with a 33.80% share in 2024.

This market is also booming in Australia. According to the latest statistics, the teeth whitening market generated USD 71.2 million in revenue in 2023 and is expected to reach USD 104.5 million by 2030. The report also cited toothpaste as the largest revenue-generating whitening product in 2023.

Meanwhile, the Australian Dental Association (ADA) annual survey of consumers’ oral habits revealed that 22% of Australian adults used teeth whitening products. This is an 8% increase since 2017, the first time the survey was conducted. The ADA report also revealed that more than twice as many women as men had their teeth whitened, and this procedure is more popular among 24—to 34-year-olds.

Veneers

Using dental veneers is a quick and easy way to cover up discoloured, chipped, or cracked teeth. The latest data revealed that the global veneer market size was USD 2.1 billion in 2021 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.3%.

In Australia, the market revenue for dental veneers was USD 63.9 million in 2023 and is expected to reach USD 112.1 million by 2030; a 8.4% growth from 2024 to 2030. The report also revealed that composite veneers are more popular than porcelain veneers, making it the fastest-growing product segment in the country.

Australians 25 to 44 years old make up the majority of dental veneer wearers. Aesthetics and social media influence this popularity.

Invisalign/Aligners

Another common cosmetic dental treatment is using aligners, with Invisalign as the most popular aligner brand. Aligners are removable and discreet; first introduced in 1999. It became so popular that by 2018, more than 5 million people were already wearing them. In 2020, around 10.9 million people used clear aligners, and in 2023, this figure rose to 17 million. This number included 4.5 million teenagers.

Clear aligners are also in demand in Australia, with the market valued at USD 534.3 million by 2028 and expected to grow at a CAGR of 28.7% during the forecast period.

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is also known as dental or tooth bonding, which repairs minor dental imperfections using tooth-coloured resin. This resin repairs chips, gaps, or cracks and is minimally invasive. The global dental bonding agents market was valued at USD 4.11 billion in 2023 and is expected to grow to  5.93 billion by 2031, a CAGR of 4.7% during the forecast period.

Dental Contouring

Tooth reshaping is a cosmetic dental procedure where small amounts of tooth enamel are removed to enhance the size or shape of teeth. This procedure corrects chips, slight overlaps, and uneven edges, improving overall appearance. It is minimally invasive and offers faster, noticeable results.

Dental contouring is in demand. The global market for dental contouring was valued at USD 2.6 billion in 2022 and is expected to reach USD 4.5 billion in 2032. This is a CAGR of 5.8% during the forecast period.

Who is Getting Cosmetic Dental Work?

Previously, the high cost of cosmetic dental treatments has made people shy away from them. Still, thanks to dental insurance and increased access to more affordable products, anyone can take advantage of these treatments at a more reasonable rate. The latest survey by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) revealed the following:

There are more females than males who desire cosmetic dental procedures. Women have the natural desire to remain beautiful and are more conscious about their appearance. On the other hand, men undergo cosmetic dentistry procedures primarily to boost their confidence. Whether for business, social, or personal reasons, men and women realise the need to have a good set of teeth.

How Much Are Australians Spending on Cosmetic Dentistry?

Teeth Whitening Treatments

Various teeth whitening products and treatments are available in Australia. From DIY products such as teeth whitening toothpaste, strips, and kits to professional whitening options, Australians can find easy-to-access and affordable solutions to get a whiter, more stunning smile. According to the latest report, teeth whitening costs between $350 and $1,500 or higher, depending on the method.

Dental Veneers

The cost of dental veneers varies depending on the type of material used (porcelain or composite material) and additional procedures required before applying them, such as filing down or reshaping teeth. The ADA reported that veneers cost between $300 and $1,300 per tooth.

Aligners

Aligners are worn on teeth for a certain amount of time. According to the latest rates, the average prices vary by state, costing anywhere from $8,000 to $10,000 for an 18 to 24-month treatment period. Shorter or limited treatments, usually involving only some teeth, cost less than this. Also, the number of trays and the complexity of the treatment can significantly increase the cost of treatment.

In dental care, functional treatments restore or maintain oral health, while value perception reflects how patients view the benefits as worth the cost. Though the two are related, one is clinically necessary, while the other is influenced by personal judgment and affordability.

Market Growth & Industry Trends

The cosmetic dentistry market in Australia generated USD 369.2 million in 2022 and is predicted to reach USD 1,119.4 million by 2030, a 14.9% growth from 2023 to 2030. Dental systems and equipment were the largest revenue-generating products, while orthodontic braces were the most lucrative products during the forecast period.

Emerging Trends Fueling This Growth

A growing demand for cosmetic procedures and technological advancements drives the growth of the cosmetic dentistry market in Australia.

Digital Smile Design (DSD)

DSD contributed to the growth of the cosmetic dentistry market. It is a treatment planning process that uses digital technology and advanced software to visualise and plan dental treatments. DSD involves taking digital photos and videos of the patient’s face and teeth and using these to create a digital representation of potential outcomes.

Teledentistry

Those who live in remote places and need dental treatments or advice benefit from teledentistry. These are remote dental consultants and treatments performed by professionals. Teledentistry offers remote dental care and is supported by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, which enhances the delivery of general and cosmetic dental care.

Influence of Social Media

Social media has increased the demand for cosmetic procedures. Through platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, people’s interest in teeth whitening, veneers, and a stunning Hollywood smile soared. Dental influencers share their experiences and invite consumers to try cosmetic treatments, further fueling the demand.

Rise of Dental Tourism

The rising cost of dental procedures in Australia has led residents to look for affordable and quality cosmetic and family dental care in other countries. The ADA reported that 61% of people delayed treatment in the last 12 months—a 17% increase from previous years. Also, the report noted that 63% of respondents cited affordability as the reason for the delay.

State of the art technology and skills and ability to match. I went to the clinic highly anxious ( my previous dental encounter at another clinic resulted in a panic attack and blacking out twice whilst in the chair) due to the poor integrity of my teeth, as a direct result of a health condition I had lost the majority of my teeth and the remaining were nothing short of a train wreck. Elias treated me the utmost respect and kindness. Read more

A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth. At Aesthetic Dental and Denture Clinic, we offer two types of denture, complete and partial. Complete dentures are necessary when all your natural teeth are missing. A partial denture is used when some natural teeth remain. If you are having extractions, we can also provide you with an immediate denture. This is often an interim denture so you can avoid the embarrassment of being without teeth.

A denture usually lasts between five and seven years. Time and natural changes in the mouth will affect the fit and wear patterns of your denture. If your denture is worn and doesn’t fit as well as it used to, it may require a repair or reline. Having your denture checked every two years will help to ensure a proper fit and by following your denture care instructions, you’ll extend the life of your replacement teeth.

Dentures don’t last forever. Dentures usually last between 5 to 7 years and need to be relined every 1 to 2 years. Over time dentures become worn and don’t fit as well, so it’s important to reline them regularly. The better you follow your denture care instructions, the longer your replacement teeth will last.

It is advised that you visit your dentist every 6 months for a check-up and clean. This will help to prevent any major oral health issues from occurring. However, if you have bad breath, bleeding gums, discoloured teeth, cracked or chipped teeth, tooth or jaw pain it is advised to make an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible.

At Aesthetic Dental and Denture Clinic, we know attending the dentist can be difficult for nervous and anxious patients. We offer a number of options to help make your next visit as calm and stress-free as possible. Contact us today and a friendly dental technician will be able to give you all the options available.
